The United Nations (UN) Universal Periodic Review (UPR), established by the UN General Assembly in 2006, examines the human rights records of each of the UN’s Member States and provides opportunities for civil society organisations globally to provide comments and pose questions for consideration during the review process.

In Resolution 17/4 of 6 July 2011, the UN Human Rights Council endorsed the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights. In order to encourage constructive dialogue on private sector issues in the UPR Process, this IHRB submission addresses the extent to which the Government of the United Kingdom is complying with its duty to protect against human rights abuses caused by or involving private sector actors and is seeking to promote policies and practices consistent with the UN Guiding Principles throughout the country.
