Novelist, Memoirist and Playwright


Gillian Slovo is a novelist, memoirist and playwright. She has published a best selling family memoir and fourteen novels:     Ice Road was shortlisted for the Orange prize and  Red Dust won the French Temoin du Monde prize and was made into a film starring Hilary Swank and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Gillian  also specialises in verbatim theatre. she has had four plays performed the first of which,  Guantanamo Honor Bound to Defend Freedom  played in London’s Tricycle theatre before transferring to London’s west end and to  theatres  in Florence,  New York, Washington DC, and Chicago. Her most recent verbatim Grenfell- in the words of survivors played in London’s National Theatre and  St Anns Warehouse in    Brooklyn. Gillian is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
