Tomás is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is working to accelerate the just transition to a sustainable future by building multi-stakeholder engagement. He’s been working at the intersection of research, programme management, fundraising, and communications. He’s specialised in nature-based solutions as tools for climate justice and urban adaptation, and it’s now focusing on translating human rights–based approaches into practical programme design.
Current Work
As the Just Transitions Programme Officer at IHRB, Tomás support the design, implementation, and coordination of multi-year research projects and partnerships. Coordinating projects' research processes and outputs, mapping and engaging with partners and collaborators, supporting fundraising and donor reporting, contributing to the organisation of high-level events and dialogues, and helping to shape how the programme communicates its work externally.
Before IHRB
With an MSc in Urban and Regional Planning and a BSc in Social Communications, both from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Tomás has built a diverse professional career. He has worked in communications within the non-profit sector, venturing into a rural organic produce business, and before IHRB, as a Sustainability and Project Analyst with the Sustainable Favela Network, where he fundraised and supported projects aimed at sustainable community development and climate justice.
