Resilience by Design: Embedding Gender and Rights into Corporate Sustainability
4 February 2026
On Wednesday 28 January 2026, IHRB's Salil Tripathi participated in an online discussion on the importance of embedding gender and rights into corporate sustainability efforts, organised by UNDP, Asia.
Speaking alongside Lany Harijanti, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Eva Bortolotti, UNDP, and Natasha Garcha, Impact Investment Exchange (IIX), their conversation unpacked why understanding gender-differentiated impacts is essential to credible sustainability strategies, and how rights-based, gender-responsive approaches can help companies strengthen resilience, build trust, and support inclusive economic transition.
Event background
Rising climate risks, environmental degradation and nature loss are placing new pressure on businesses in Asia. This, alongside the region’s rapid economic transition, is shaping how companies think about sustainability and long-term resilience. Companies are increasingly reporting on human rights, labour, environment and supply chains.
Yet gender remains a major blind spot. While most companies commit to gender equality, far fewer disclose progress, leaving critical risks and insights overlooked.
Women make up a large share of the workforce in sectors most vulnerable to climate and supply chain disruption like agriculture, waste management and extractives. When their experiences are not reflected in risk assessments, businesses may miss early warning signals that affect continuity, productivity and resilience and undermine human rights.
