Sarah Mostafa-Kamel is a seasoned professional in worker welfare, sustainability, and programme management, with over a decade of experience working across labour-related and policy-oriented environments. She has supported multi-stakeholder initiatives focused on improving working conditions, strengthening institutional practice, and fostering constructive collaboration across sectors. Having lived and worked across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Africa, Sarah brings a global and cross-cultural perspective to navigating complex economic and social contexts.
Current Work
As IHRB's Head of Migration, Sarah drives strategy, builds strategic partnerships with businesses, governments, and civil society, and delivers high-impact projects advancing migration and labour rights. Her focus areas include responsible recruitment, worker welfare in Gulf Cooperation Council countries through IHRB's Gulf Sustain initiative, and IHRB's emerging work on climate adaptation. Based in Nairobi, she brings deep regional expertise across East Africa and the Gulf, bringing together all streams of the organisation's migration work.
Before IHRB
Prior to joining IHRB, Sarah worked in labour-focused organisations, where she contributed to strengthening organisational capacity, supporting collective processes, and facilitating dialogue between workers, employers, and public institutions.
At the Public Service Alliance of Canada, Sarah managed regional operations, overseeing programmes and services for thousands of workers. Her responsibilities included collective agreement implementation, policy advisory work, grievance handling, and coordination of organisational and political strategy. During her time at the Service Employees International Union, she worked on campaigns that secured improvements in wages, benefits, pensions, and workplace conditions, while engaging employers and policymakers on employment standards and workforce practices.
Sarah holds a Master’s degree in Education & Society and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Middle East, and African Studies from McGill University.
