Nicky Black

Dr. Nicky Black is an independent sustainability performance consultant, with almost two decades experience in the extractive and luxury sectors, and in cross-sector collaboration for sustainability impact. From 2017-2022 she served as a Director at the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), an international organisation that brings together 27 mining and metals companies and over 30 regional and commodities associations to strengthen environmental and social performance and enhance mining’s contribution to society. Prior to joining ICMM, Nicky was Group Head of Social Performance at De Beers, the world’s leading diamond company.
Nicky holds a PhD in Strategic Management from the University of Waikato in New Zealand, a Master’s degree in Political Sociology from McGill University in Canada, and a degree in Human Sciences from the University of Oxford in the UK. Her academic work focused on global governance, sustainable development and human rights, particularly in fragile states and areas of conflict.
Combating forced labor remains a key challenge throughout the world, and regardless of where it occurs in the global supply chain, Walmart is committed to working with industry groups, governments, NGOs and suppliers to help eliminate forced labor.
